[Anime Boston ’23] Mummy Dust

Japan’s First (and nearly lost) animated Feature film

The history of anime is a fascinating subject with the early days having very little information due to how very few of the shorts and movies were preserved.  This panel went into the war propaganda film made near the end of World War II.  The movie was thought lost because in the post war era all the old propaganda, in any format, was destroyed.  The behind the scenes story and how the film was saved are far more interesting than the actual movie plot.  More than that, the movie got a modern day release as a form of preservation.  If you care about anime history then give this panel a look because the history of anime is more expansive than many think.

The Lasting Impact of Rose of Versailles

This was a surprising panel as it took a look at an important series that still has lasting impact to this day.  The Rose of Versailles is an influential series that not only has talks of a reboot, but they are still making merchandise based on the original series from 1979.  The panel explored the plot of the series and how it influenced other series before exploring the merchandise and rumors about what is next for the Rose of Versailles.  It is good to know that there is still love for Rose of Versailles so many years after it had come out.  If you enjoy female led adventure series this is a classic worth watching.

Anime in you TTRPG: a Gamemaster’s Guide

There is something most DMs would love to do and that is run a more anime themed game.  The host discussed what kinds of games people might want to play.  After that, there was a discussion about all the different rule books out on the market that can allow the DM to either put a favorite anime into a tabletop setting or make an original adventure in a very “anime rules” type world.  It’s great to see panels like this that help DMs and tabletop players learn more way to play.  This is the kind of panel I’d love to see return as there are always new indie tabletop games and new DMs looking for alternatives to the big name game options.
