Opening Ceremonies by Scarlet

Now the convention can officially start! The two chairs of Anime Boston ’23 introduced all the respective guests. Not all guests could make it to opening ceremonies. Instead, they had videos of the guest’s  voice acting reel featured. I was hoping to get a glimpse of Dante Basco, but he was a now show at opening ceremonies. The highlight of the opening show was showcasing a local idol group called, Idolized New England. This idol troupe did a set of Vocoloid routines onstage. The other highlight was Anime Boston’s avatar creation game, Find Your Spotlight. Guests can scan a QR code and create their 16bit idol avatar of themselves.

Friday Genshin Meet Up by Scarlet

This was the most calm Genshin cosplay meet up and believe me, I’ve covered Genshin cosplay meet ups! What’s different about Anime Boston is most of their cosplay meet ups are indoors in badged areas. We took over a large ballroom on the third floor of the Hynes where we had tables where we can chat and make new friends. It was the most organized and chill Genshin meet up I’ve ever attended! The Mona cosplayer was calling out different groups of cosplayers by also naming out fun facts about each team up. I don’t think we had a general photo of all the Genshin cosplayers. It would have been too chaotic. We mainly went by region, vision type, etc.

Formal Dance by Scarlet

This is my first time attending a formal dance at Anime Boston. Previously, Anime Boston did have a formal dance for a few years, but it was phased out. Now, it’s back on Friday! The ballroom dance mostly attracted folks who were staying at the hotels to enjoy this chill evening affair. It was low key compared to other ballroom dances I’ve attended and staffed. There was an hour lesson before that was a mish mash of different ballroom styles. The dance itself was low it and had a romantic feel to the sounds of the Digimon English opening, “Moon Pride” from Sailor Moon, the opening to Ghost Hunter, and others. The playlist choice was kinda funky and many of the attendees I spoke and danced with felt there should have been more waltzes. Swing sets to opening themes were pretty popular on heavy rotation. Otherwise, it was a chill formal event.
