Baby, why don’t you come over? Red wine supernova, falling into me
My Friday started later in the day. I was working remotely from our hotel and was not able to make it to the con until the early afternoon. As per San Diego Comic Con tradition, I stopped by the Cat Cafe San Diego, a few blocks up from the convention center. I have been a patron of this cat rescue since 2016. I ended up taking Prof. Ramses with me the first time. He ended up bonding with Stubby, a gray rescue kitty who survived a coyote attack. We hope he finds a new home soon. The cat cafe admission was relatively affordable and it also came with a complimentary drink.
I waltzed around the con as Beidou from Genshin Impact.I really liked the space outside of the Marriott Marquis. This bougie hotel had a jungle outside the hotel which made for amazing photo backdrops. I needed some shots of my favorite lesbian pirate from the once-popular gacha game. Genshin Mommies are underrated. There was some Genshin presence at San Diego Comic Con; we had a Teyvat photo op at the far end of the dealers hall.
I did attend two panels for my own professional development as a writer. I attended the Good and Evil character writing panel which had a pantheon of content creators discussing how to write from different points of views. They also took diversity and culture into consideration. One such takeaway from this panel was to talk to different people to get a sense of authenticity and their lived experience. Another key takeaway was when writing antagonists, consider that their motivations are correct from their point of view.
I also attended the Eraserheads panel featuring Whilce Portacio and the creative team behind Lumpia. The Eraserheads are regarded as the Nirvana of the Philippines. This panel was talking about their upcoming documentary on how they changed the face of pop music in the Philippines in the early 90s. I had no idea this band existed; I’m only familiar with our national hero, Lea Salonga and Christian-Pop-Michael-Jackson, Gary Volcano as far as OPM goes. I didn’t get a chance to ask Whlice Portacio if X-Men Animated Bishop was Blasian though.
There were a lot of good late night panels, but my hangry energy was taking over. I wanted to check out the Black Horror, Monster Women, and Filipino Martial Arts panels, but my stomach was answering to
