What is a "Nihonmachi?" Nihonmachi is a term to describe Japanese communities in urban areas. San Francisco's Japan Town and Los Angeles' Little Tokyo are examples of this. There are only three Nihonmachi in the United States, the third being in San Jose. March is often labled as "dead season" for Californian cosplayers being that there are no official conventions until Fanime and Anime Expo. While there were a few cosplay related get togethers, such as the Van Nuys Cherry Blossom Gathering, Traveling Valentine attended two cosplay gatherings that happened to take place at a local Nihonmachi.
