Time to get down on Saturday night...well, not really. Tom and I waited outside in line - in the freezing cold - for Masquerade to start. Thankfully, the show started on time at about 6:30PM. While waiting for the show to start, Tom and I battled out Pokemon against each other. Great to have those Nintendo DS devices out when it comes to waiting. To warm up the audience, we were entertained with amvs such as "Right Now," "Date Rape," and "Flying Car." Tom and I cheered when "Right Now" had Lupin III clips. The Masquerade's entrants were either hit and miss. As Tom puts it, a majority of the acts had the same punchline and it was like watching the same sketch with different characters. There were a total of 15 masquerade acts, plus an improvised act to kill time between technical difficulties during act number 15. Suffice to say, the improvised performance was the best act on stage. You can't go wrong with Pheonix Wright on mucho Dateline: To Catch a Predator crack. You're next, cast of Naruto. Tom and I did not stay for the awards or any additional halftime performances. We ran into our friend Hector and joined his crew for drinks at the California Grill. Tom says that the Rum and Coke was one of the best he's ever had. Unfortuantely, they did not serve Strawberry Daiquiris, so I settled for a Pina Colada. Hector ordered the Mojitos, which peaked Tom's curiosity. In between the masquerade and the Bishounen Auction, we just chilled in the lobby with our friends. We had a few late comers like Dominic, Dan, Michael, Chris Tang, and Patrick. Nando and Katie arrived back to the Marriot. They invited us to tag along with them to the Bishounen auction. According to those two, the Bishounen Auction is the main staple to this show. Tom and I knew a few people that were up such as the Roy Mustang. It was really interesting to see how much people would spend on having a date with a Yaoi Con bishounen. We're talking to hundreds of dollars here. Several highlights included a cross dressing guy from DMP. The winner also won the dress he was wearing. There was also a Sweedish guy giving out Sweedish speaking lessons. Most of the acts consisted of live karaoke and of course, live stripping. There were 13 bishounens in the show. It was getting late, Tom and I had to get going to San Jose. Lucky for us.
