After dinner, we walked back to the Moscone Center. We ran into my former roommate, Chris. To kill time before masquerade, we did one more round in the Dealer's Room. Tom was on the hunt for "Sledge Hammer" comics. I just wanted to look at the varieties of fandom present. We also ran into our friends Juan, Nessa, and Francine. While waiting for masquerade to start, Tom and I went in line and played poker. Grant ran into us and escorted us into the main ballroom. We sat right by the Consplayers family. Because we were press, we had a sneak peak at what was going on backstage before the show. While most of the photographers were in the green room, Consplayers and Traveling Valentine were in the audience enjoying and recording the show. Several highlights included Lego Star Wars, The Crow, Monty Python's Holy Grail, House of Flying Daggers, a double dose of Johnny Depp in the form of Jack Sparrow and Willy Wonka, Buzz Lightyear, and many more. It was a pleasure seeing talent up close on stage. The MC was the same guy from World Con. It was great seeing him host this one. I went backstage to take more photos of the costumers. My camera ran out of batteries, so Tom let me use his camera for back up. Thanks, Tom. We were in a treat for the halftime show. Mr. Lobo of Cinema Insomnia hosted this year's show again. There were several audience participation bits during his halftime sketch. Tom volunteered for the assemble a skeleton bit. Mr. Lobo dubbed him as Indiana Jones in his teaching days, even though he was dressed up as James Bond (wouldn't that be his father?). Among the halftime entertainment, Pepper Alexandria and her harem of bellydancers shook their thing. So, who won Wonder Con's masquerade honors? Dany (from The Crow sketch) gave this bit of information. Best in Show, First Place: Darth Maul and Qi Gon Gin (Lego Star Wars) Second Place: Obi Wan and Anikin training (Star Wars) Best Workmanship: AJ & Candice (House of Flying Daggers) Honorable Mentions: Jack Sparrow & Willy Wonka, World of Warcraft, Superman, Teen Titans, The Crow, and Buzz Lightyear Right after halftime, Tom and I left to go back to our tiny motel and called it a night from there. We were already looking forward to what wonders Comic-Con will bring us this summer. Pictures are copyright by Victoria Erica.
