Since last year, Pacific Media Expo has hosted a late night comedy club that involves amateur local comedians. This year, PMX hosted their second annual roast. This was the Roast of Sir Richard Epcar. He is known for voice work in classic anime series such as Robotech (Ben Dixon), Macross Plus ( Guld Boaman), Lupin III (Jigen Daisuke), and others. This event drew in old school 90s fans of anime who grew up watching big name shows such as Robotech. Not to mention, there was also a bar for those who donated money to Richard Epcar's charity for lupus.
The biggest event of Friday night was the Roast of Sir Richard Epcar. The event was set to run between nine and ten, but things did not work out as planned. The roast began a little late, but once it got off the ground it was off and running. The seating was very limited. The cast was filled with notable members of the voice acting community including: Michael Sorich, JB Blanc, Michael Reynolds, Ellyn Stern, Steve Kramer, and Michael McConnohie. While the roast did run long it was a very enjoyable show. The Roast of Richard Epcar was easily one of the highlights of the convention with everyone in the audience having a good time. You can watch clips of the roast on the Scarlet Rhapsody Youtube channel.
At 10PM, Jared had his Convention War Stories panel listed. However, due to the long running length of the Roast of Richard Epcar, Jared was late getting to his panel. Thankfully the co-host of the panel Austin (Animation Liberation) had brought in other convention veterans to keep the stories going. Upon arrival Jared joined his team and inspired by the Roast he began riffing on stories adding to the overall humor of the event. The panel was a success and everyone who attended had a great time.
As it was past midnight at PMX it was no surprise that there was still life at the convention. We ran into several friends and were even surprised to see Steve Racer still hanging around the convention. After a little socializing we decided it was time to wrap it up before the busy day tomorrow.
