We woke up early the next morning which allowed us to get ready and have breakfast without needing to rush. I got dressed in my yanki outfit, in order to support the fashion side of PMX. Victoria wore her contest Dawn from Pokemon. We made our way down to the press room and picked up our badges with ease. We ran into a few friends and had a quick chat before heading out to a panel.
Japan is Awesome by Victoria Michael Tang (One Click Away from Japan) hosted Spreading Love for Japan on Saturday morning. Jared and I just so happened to peak into the panel room and just decided to check it out. Because it was a small panel room, it was very discussion driven. The panelists talked about their love for Japan and their favorite aspects of Japanese culture. There was much interaction with the audience about what it is like to live in Japan. One of the panelists talked about her interest in J-rock music and her desire to go to a stadium J-rock concert and be surrounded by fellow fans. While I have never been to Japan, there are a few things that fascinate me, maybe next year, I'll finally visit.
Exploring PMX by Jared After the panel we took a lap around the hotel to get acquainted with the various points of interest. It was a disappointment to not see a video game room, but it was easy to find every location. At this point Victoria and I split up to cover more ground. I decided to take a quick look at the dealer room. It was small and I did not see much of interest, but I ran into the Epic Cosplay and Cosplay in America booth. I had a nice chat with them and made my way to the martial arts room. It was difficult to get a clear view of floor, but it was fun to watch the beginning of the tournament. After that I took a brief trip to the artist alley, but it was a bit crowded so I had to head out without looking at much.
Window Shopping at the Lolita Boutique by Victoria I decided to pay a visit to the Lolita boutique. To participate in the special Lolita events, you had to pay an additional $10 to your registration. $10 gets you into the boutique and participate in the Starlight Fashion Festival. The boutique had four different Lolita dealers: Innocent World, Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Wonderland Atelier, and Sweet Rococo. Innocent World came directly from Japan and brought some of their Japanese staff to assist buyers. Baby the Stars Shine Bright came from their San Francisco store front and they brought a variety of sizes (including dresses with shirring so that larger sized girls can be accommodated for). Independent local designers, Wonderland and Rococo, sold accessories suitable for Sweet Lolita. If you were looking for good deals for Lolita brand, this was the place to go. Baby dresses and jumper skirts retailed between $150-$200. The price on the tag is what you paid. In addition, Baby brought their popular lucky packs. The lucky packs included a bonnet, socks, and stationary. Buyers can see the lucky packs before they buy so they know what colors they would be getting. Lucky packs retailed at $35. Innocent World also had their popular items as well. They had an immense stock of Victorian style blouses. In addition, they also had their popular prints of skirts and dresses. The fashion boutique is cash only, but luckily, there was an ATM machine in the hotel. We met up at the press conference which went really well and after we went to the Pockey Tasting Room. It was too bad the room did not have the lunch deal that it had last year. Still there was a good deal for ramune, pockey, and a tour of the tasting room. Finding Food by Jared This dashed our hopes for a quick lunch so we went out to check out the food truck that had arrived. Sadly the truck line was very long so we went with Plan C; looking for a restaurant around town. Had it been for closer food options, we would have tstuck around for the Alice and the Pirates press conference.
We found Islands at the shopping center and had a big lunch. It took much longer than we wanted, but we had leftovers for dinner. We got back to the hotel and took some quick pictures before going up to the room to change. Victoria changed into Eva Friedel from Memories and I changed into Artemis from Sailor Moon. Victoria went off for some nice pictures of her dress from Spooky Electric. Since I had some free time I decided to watch more of the Way of the Strick and Blade (Filipino martial arts) tournament. After watching several rounds I decided to meet up with some old friends before meeting back up with Victoria.
