Deb and I had a rude awakening. Julia and Caitlin's next door neighbors had a feathered alarm clock, if you will. Deb and I were wondering if we wandered from the valley and somehow drifted off to Kansas. Who keeps a rooster as a domestic pet? Deb couldn't sleep for the rest of the morning. Julia and Caitlin's mom was very nice to make us all breakfast and serve us coffee.

Sunday was Neon Genesis Evangelion day. Deb as Shinji, Tom as Kaji, Julia as Asuka, yours truly as Misato, and Stan as a casual Gendou Ikari/Toji. The Evangelion madness started up at Julia's house. Julia and I were doing final touches on our costumes. We also realized that our Asuka and Misato costume patterns all came from Vogue. Of course, it began as a running joke to kick Shinji in the face.

I decided to be in character and (safely) drive the kids to MikomiCon. The drive from Julia and Caitlin's was not that bad at all.

We returned back to the amazing goodness that was MikomiCon. Joel, the masquerade director, congratulated us for our Best of Show win. He joked to Tom and I for missing the awards portion that we had some nerve ditching the awards. Of course, we explained we had to grab dinner since I was feeling pretty hungry.

Sunday morning seemed to be less noisy as the day before. There was another martial arts and taiko demonstration in the main plaza. We learned that MikomiCon had a karaoke room.

The karaoke room was a student lounge with karaoke set up. We walked in and hardly anyone was singing. It was set up like a karaoke machine in which you had to input the numbers. MikomiCon's song selection were mostly English songs. Caitlin was looking for Japanese songs. I actually don't mind doing English songs because it really includes everyone and not everyone can read Japanese. Besides, I mostly sing English songs anyway whenever I do regular karaoke. Tom only sings English songs.

Of course, we had to do a few songs in character. As a tribute to Kaji and Asuka's intro episode, "Asuka Strikes," Tom sang "Lightning Strikes Again" by Lou Reed. Video Link.

Of course, Tom had to sing the quintessential Asuka song, "Kyle's Mom is a Bitch." Of course, it would be more appropriate for Toji to sing that to Asuka considering that Tom originally had plan on cosplaying Toji. Video Link.

Meanwhile, I just sang whatever showtunes were on the song selection. I did "Dance 10, Looks 3" from A Chorus Line and "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from Gypsy. One cosplayer groaned at my Sondheim choice, but whatever, Gypsy is a classic! Of course, I had to fill in for the Mama Rose part and had Deb as the Laura Benati / Natalie Wood character.

Deb made a really cute emo boy (aka Shinji). At one point, Julia sang "Kiss Me" to Shinji to reanact the scene where Asuka is bored and kisses Shinji. Video Link.

One of the highlights was Stan rocking out to ACDC. He did a very memorable cover of "Thunderstruck." Tom joined into a duet with Stan. You have to see it to believe it. Video Link.

Shinji also likes to admit that "She Hates Me." That was the best part of karaoke at MikomiCon - singing in character. The part that everyone in the room loved was when Julia kicked Deb in the face during "She Hates Me." Of course, it was Stan's request for Deb to sing it to Julia. Video Link.

To end this karaoke escapade, we all hammered it down with a classic as requested by Stan - "Iron Man." Julia and Caitlin did not know the words, so they made it up as everyone sang along. Video Link.
