We arrived early at the Long Beach Convention Center in order to regroup and prepare for the day. When the doors opened we began our exploration of the dealer hall. This year it seemed like there were many more single issue venders and far fewer hardcover/Trade paperback venders. However, it was nice to see so many booths offering candy as Halloween was the next day. As we explored the hall we came across the beautiful ladies of the Team Unicorn booth. Victoria talked costuming with them, while Jared got distracted by candy.
As we walked through the hall we ran into Kurt Miller (The Wasteland) and discussed the screenwriter's current projects. It was nice to discuss the troubles of dealing with whimsical artists and the difficulty of getting an independent comic completed. We parted ways and found ourselves at the Pendant Audio booth. Both Jared and Victoria have performed for Pendant in the past and meeting the Pendant staff in person was a treat. Pendant was promoting the anniversary of The Kingery and the recent completion of Dixie. We also got to meet fellow voice actor and vocal coach, Mark Allen Junior.
As it approached noon we headed out of the dealer room in order to attend Harmony Gold's Robotech panel hosted by Tommy Yune. The panel focused on new toys that were coming out, the rerelease of the series on DVD, and they showed a clip from the new Robotech documentary. The big surprise of the panel was that the voice of Ben Dixon and Lunk Richard Epcar showed up to the panel. The documentary looks great and Jared is very tempted to pick up a new Robotech battlepod.
We returned to the dealer hall in order to check out the various Star Wars fan groups and to grab a few interviews. The 501st, Rebel Legion, and Inland Empire Fan Force were all very nice and answered our different questions about the groups. It was also cool to see that they had guides to help with cosplaying the different characters of the galaxy. We even got to see a legacy era cosplayer. The coolest prop on display was The Jedi Path book, members of Scarlet Rhapsody have considered converting.
Long Beach Comic Con also had booths from other costume groups such as the Costumers Guild West and V3 Cosplay Syndicate . It was fun to talk shop with other people in costuming. Victoria also learned about Costume College, a professional development workshop for amateur and professional costumers. This year, Costume College will present a Golden Age of Hollywood theme. This piqued Victoria's interest very fast since the 1930s is her favorite era.
We took a walk around the artist alley and decided to wrap up our trip through the hall by stopping by the Soul Geek booth. This booth promoted the new online dating service that matched people up by their nerdy interests. While at the booth we had the opportunity to interview one of the founders.
After our interview, we met up with Richard Epcar whom we had planned to meet with and interview for “The History of Lupin III”.
