It was the last day of the convention. Everyone was about ready to leave. I did my usual routine of checking out early and leaving my things at the bell desk before the noontime rush. I ended up wearing Cure Moonlight on the last day. While I normally don't wear my more complicated costumes on a Sunday, I decided to wear Cure Moonlight anyway to represent Pretty Cure. I also scheduled a private shoot in the artist alley to get some really nice photos of this cosplay.
Affording Lolita I was quite disapointed when I learned the Sailor Moon panel was canceled (I could have taken over?). I ended up attending the affording Lolita panel. It felt like Lolita 101, but it was interesting to go over each of the different types of Lolita styles. What I liked about this panel was encouraing people to stick with colors they like and how to build a coordinated style according to each Lolita types (country, sweet, gothic, etc). It's improtant to find a style one likes and colors that go with it to build a coordinate. It was really interesting to go over different types of styles and to know that classical items can also be used for country style. Panelists talked about how to slowly build your Lolita coordinate by collecting the basics (ie: blouses) and saving up for jumper skirts and brand one pieces.
Last Minute Deals: Artist Alley and Merchant's Hall Slowly after the Affording Lolita panel, I decided to check out any last minute deals in bot the artist alley and merchant's hall. I did a photoshoot with a Fenyx Design as Cure Moonlight. I went into the merchant's hall, but it was really crowded. More and more I notice that Sundays no longer have much last minute deals. Everyone was trying to get in their last minute shopping before closing time at 3PM.
Pokemon Shoot As I was on my way to the bell desk, I ran into the Pokemon cosplay meet up. They were hanging out by the fountains in the atrium. I just learned about this shoot now. It's like your typical Pokemon meetup, but not as overwhelming. There were gijinkas, team rockets, and trainers alike. Much like the Persona shoot, everyone was taking requests for poses. It was a nice photoshoot to wind down the last day.
Leaving the Con My shuttle to DCA was at 4PM. However, the line to the bell desk was really long. I'm not used to long lines at the bell desk. It was taking a while to get my bags from the bell desk so I could change into normal clothes. People were still taking photos by the gazebo. However, there was also a Zuko cosplayer doing real life firebending right by the gazebo. If you want to talk about the quality of cosplay at this con, a Zuko performing pyro acts is enough to tell you that the most hardcore of cosplayers come out to Katsucon. The shuttle was running late, but we were able to make it to our flight. My flight back to Boston was delayed because of the snowstorm. I was quite surprised to find other cosplayers and Katsucon-goers at the terminal. It was nice talking with other otaku at the gate; it really help pass the time while waiting for the return home.
