JTAF started on Saturday September 16, 2006 on an easy breezy autumn day. Prior to the two day event, it was cloudy on our side of the city. Seeing that it was sunny outside, the weather for JTAF would be just perfect unlike the JTAF 3's thunderstorms. The plan of action was to cosplay as Lupin III and Fujiko Mine. Luckily, my housemates offered us a ride to the bank and to Japan Town.

We arrived at Japan Town in the afternoon. Tom and I picked up our badges at registration. We cruised through the swap meet. Luck (Head Mistress of WiC ToP) gave Eponine (resin member of Traveling Valentine) a panda hat to go with her middle school uniform. Tom bought Karaoke Revolution I from Eurobeat King and GTA Liberty City Stories from some vendor whose name escaped him 2 minutes after the purchase. For the most part, we just walked around Japan Town from one end to the other.

A few events were going on at the Miyako Hotel such as the concerts. The Dealer Room was very tiny and stuffy this year. Because of that, it didn't give me enough time to look for a mascot strap for my new camera. Other JTAF highlights included the Unofficial Jump Rope Tournament. The tradition began in 2004 and now that sunlight returned for 2006, there was much jump roping. Another unofficial event was burning the Narutards at the stake.

And then there was the Unofficial Dollfie Gathering.

Finally, it was time for Tom and I to run our Pop Culture Revolution panel. (Named "Otaku Documentary" in the programming) Normally, we show up half an hour before start time to do sound and accoustics check. However, the panel room was locked. Tom had to contact the owner to help us get in. Normally, a staffer would be in the room to run any errands or troubleshoot any problems. We had none. Luckily, Richi showed up to help us with any technical support.

We still ran the panel. We did not have a screen, but the white wall did the job. We had a decent turnout of mostly the Anime FX crowd and several of our friends. Despite our issues with accoustics, we were still able to have what we wanted. Thanks to Astro for briefly presenting the joys of Asian resin dolls.

The festivities were dying down by the end of the day. Tidus Chris invited Tom and I to a party, but we were planning to have dinner at home. Jan gave us a ride back to our house. For most of the night, we were just watching "classic" horror movies like Shaun of the Dead and Cinema Insomnia (Devil Doll). With Lego Star Wars thrown in for fun.
