ConnectiCon was winding down. Sunday was fairly light, but there was still worthwhile programming to check out. As we were packing up our things, we realized we had some room to take a few things home with us. We hoped that the dealers hall would have some last day deals. After all, who wants to bring back a huge stock pile of unsold merchindise all the way back home? On Sunday, Jared cosplayed as Jack Harkness and Scarlet cosplayed as Azusa Miura from The iDolm@ster.
Someone Else's Sandbox: Creating for Licensed Properties by Jared
While there tend to be many different types of writing panels or getting inoto the industry panels, this panel looked at a different aspect of writing and art. This panel focused on the tricky business of working with liscenced properties both with a publisher and as fan work. The panel began as a discussion of the issues involved with working with the creations of other people and went into the stipulations that can occur when contracted by a publisher. The panel concluded with a question and answer section that had nearly everyone asking questions. It was an interesting panel and it was a good source for advice when dealing with fan fiction and fan art.
Media Guests Roundtable by Scarlet
Internet reviewers are becoming the new fan celebrities. While many comic cons may argue that famous cosplayers bring a draw of general audiences, one cannot deny the influence and starpower Internet reviewers have in modern media. I wanted to catch this panel because it was the closest thing seeing Nostalgia Chick and the rest of Chez Apolocalypse take part in a panel. They ended up sharing the space with other online reviewers and content producers. Discussion on intellectual property occured. Perhaps the most interesting panel discussion was online trolling the panelists may have encoutered. There are reviews that will not resonate with others; panelists agreed that negative feedback can also create free publicity.
George Lucas Ruined My Life by Jared
As this is a multi-genre convention it was not unexpected to see a panel dedicated to Star Wars. This panel was about the mistakes of the prequels and the stupidity of some of the other expanded universe materials. The panelists discussed the problems with the prequels and the audience added their two cents as well. The end of the panel turned toward the new movies and how the panelists felt about the various news leaks. Overall, it was a fun panel to have on a Sunday and it was a nice change from the usual Asian media themed panels at anime conventions.
Dealers Hall: Last Minute Deals by Scarlet
The dealers hall is one of ConnectiCon's biggest draws. It is smaller compared to the likes of Anime Boston and shares space with the artist alley and online media guests row. I would say there were about three rows of vendors all selling a variety of things. I picked up some loose leaf tea from Tea and Absinthe. There were some clothing vendors that sold corsets and steampunk fashion. There was even rave wear and Lolita accessories sold around the dealers hall. The majority of vendors sold anime and manga. Even Boston's Comicopia was there to sell their stockpile of manga. I was quite surprised to see Love Live figures being sold at ConnectiCon and none were sold out! I ended up picking up some figures from Hammer Girl Anime to add to my collection. Otherwise, it was a nice mix of fashion, comics, pen and paper RPG's, and more.
It was getting close to boarding time. We picked up our stuff from the Marriott so we could get to the bus terminal on time. For the most part, we just took a very long nap before arriving into Boston. It certainly was a nerdy filled weekend to remember.
