Saturday morning started off with a quick breakfast of pop tarts. Our day started early since we were attending the Saturday morning press Q&A sessions at the Marriott. For Saturday, Scarlet test ran her Love Live cosplay. Jared wore Yankii J, one of Jewario's characters on That Guy With the Glasses. Saturday was the biggest day of ConnectiCon - many main events were going through the day. Many A list celebrities to fandom were having panels and meet and greets all day long.
Press Junkets: by Jared Griego
On Saturday morning the members of the press were given the opportunity to have a nice press conference style interview session with several of the top teir guests of the convention. Our first interview was with…
FMV Contest by Scarlet
Anime conventions typically have an anime music video contests where fan editors take anime and splice select clips into a music video. Since ConnectiCon is the con that celebrates everything, this opens up more media to partake in a music video contest. It was nice seeing Avatar: The Last Airbender, Frozen, and Homestuck in the mix of things. The contest was shown on Saturday morning and had the audience vote on their favorites in each category.
Artist Alley and Online Media Row by Scarlet
On the first floor of the convention center, you can meet your favorite online media personalities. The biggest draws were Little Kuriboh of Yugioh Abridged fame and Nostalgia Chick from Chez Apocalypse. However, there were also media personalities that you can chit chat with or recieve a personalized autograph from. We learned about Super Art Fight - we usually see them up and down the east coast; they're almost like an otaku version of Win Loose or Draw. We also met Signal Crash Studios and Marble Hornets. The artist alley was a narrow row of fan artists who sold their wares. They ranged from fans of series creating and commisioning drawings from fandoms. You also got the occasional original art from indie comic artists. I ended up picking up a few magnets that had cats drinking tea - functional and cute!
Local Eats: Burger Baby by Jared Griego
One of the best parts of going to the con is that some of the local restaurants give discounts to the attendees. One such restaurant is Burger Baby, a nice café –style gormet burger place. The prices are good for the large protion size and the food is amazingly good. We recommend the burgers and the duck fat fries. Burger Baby also has several non-burger related items on the menu so evewryone in a group can find something that they will like. The best part is that Burger Baby is right off of the shuttle route so it is very easy to get to when leaving the convention.
Mighty Morphin' Super Sentai by Jared Griego
If you have ever wondered about the Japanese side of the Power Rangers this panel attempted to cover the history and strange series that have come out in Japan. This was not a comparison, but a discussion about the various different Super Sentai series from the early days before the tropes were set to the modern series that have been transformed into the current Power Rangers shows. There were plenty of suggestions for series to jump into for new fans and those interested in seeing the original source material. The panel was fun and gave us some new shows to check out when we got back home.
