The Business of Art Presents: Build Your Audience Even if You Don't have a Product Building by Jared
Nothing is more annoying than looking for advice and receiving nothing. This panel was run by amateurs who gave the most basic of advice about how to build an audience. The ‘advice’ ranged from use social media to be nice to people. This panel was a giant waste of time for anyone who has moved past the most basic stages of promotions. Many people left part way through the panel and overall this was a major disappointment.
The Writer's Journey: Maximizing Your Exposure in the Marketplace by Jared
This panel was run by several professional writers who talked about the life of a writer and the challenges that one will face taking that career path. The panel was set around removing the usual sugar coating that many other panels tend to do. Topics went from getting works together, finding contacts, entering contests, and how to avoid scams. This is one of the best panels on the subject and it is nice to have a panel where the hosts don’t sugar coat the difficulties with entering the creative fields.
Screenwriting for Animation by Jared
This was another ‘real talk’ panel where professionals that told stories from their careers. This included a discussion about dealing with standards and practices as well as the struggle of getting a script recognized. They discussed the importance with having a good set of spec scripts and how being respectful and focusing on the deadline can be the keys to moving forward with your career. This was a great panel for both artists and writers who want a career in animation.
