After a disappointing evening we decided to get a fresh start on day two.  We got up, ate some snacks and got going before the rush.  That is until we saw the line for the monorail.  It was rather long, but due to the rate the trains show up, we made our way to the convention center with little delay. On the walk from the monorail station to the convention center we saw a gaming tent sponsored by Sprint.  They had loud music playing as well as 3D gaming stations.  Andrew (CtrlAltKill) and I tried out Killzone in 3D and it was fun, but nothing special.  I did like how the 3D shows off the environmental effects, but it did not add anything to the gaming experience.  After that distraction we made our way into the convention center.

We decided to hit a bit more of the central hall today so we began our journey with LG and their lineup of TVs.  LG had some very nice HD set in addition to sets that were designed to use less power, a nice innovation in an age where everyone wants to “go green”.  As would be the running theme of the weekend, I tried out the 3D TV sets that LG had up and once again I got a little dizzy.  Although, I am not one to have motion sickness, I got the feeling that the dizziness is what motion sickness must feel like.

The Vivatar booth was near JVC and we stopped by because the Hello Kitty cameras and accessories caught Victoria’s eye.  I was more amused by the binoculars that could take photos.  They were designed for hiking or bird watching, but they felt more prurient to me, after all, voyeurs need new technology too.   However, what really caught my attention was the smell of food coming from the NBC/Universal booth.

NBC had not only a live news cast going on that their booth, but also a presentation by Bravo's Top Chef.  They were cooking popcorn balls and roasted marshmallows with heat torches and liquid nitrogen. The food was really good and it was a nice snack since it was past lunchtime.  We got a quick photo with the star and continued to look around the Central Hall. Video of the demonstration.

MSNBC also broadcasted from CES live.

CES is full of unexpected celebrity sightings. While perusing through North Hall, we caught the Blu Ray presentation as hosted by top Hollywood directors: Baz Luhrman, Michael Mann, and Oliver Stone. The three directors showcased clips from their movies how they would look like in Blu Ray. This was an open panel done in the main hall. There were plenty of people watching this presentation. All three directors praised Blu Ray for keeping classic film in the best preservation possible.

As we wandered we decied it would be best to go back to the press room and grab some lunch and refreshments. We got a little lost on our way out, but that did not matter because the bus lines were crazy.  We decided to just snack on what we brought and continue with our exploration of CES.  Since we had not entered the South Hall yet, we made our way toward that part of the convention center.  It was quite a walk and it helped us appreciate the sheer size of this event.

South Hall was even larger than Central Hall! South Hall had an assortment of wireless technology. For all your bluetooth and celluar needs, South Hall was the place to be. However, one of our favorite delights at CES was not just the showcasing of new home technology, but the design of said home technology. For instance, we stopped by a booth that had mp3 player earphones, but they were designed to look like a necklace. There were a ton of cell phone and tablet accessories varying in design from pop culture icons to do it yourself custom design.

One fun demonstration we found was a body scanner that can create an exact avatar of you based on measurements, skin tone, and overall likeness. Fashion companies use this avatar to find flattering clothing and make up for you. Another fun thing that Victoria was able to test out was a concierage service that can give you travel advice that can be available in any language. Victoria tried this demonstration out speaking in French. She was able to find out discount codes for Jersey Boys. tickets.

On our way out, we went to Olivia Wilde's panel at the Blackberry booth. Olivia Wilde talked about her upcoming films, specifically about working with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig in "Cowboys Versus Aliens." In addition, plenty of her fans wanted to know what her experience was like working on "Tron Legacy." We were close enough to the right side of the stage, so we were able to take some video footage of the panel. Video of Olivia Wilde's Friday panel can be seen here.

Later in the evening, we decided to hit Tao for some after party time. CES advertised that the official CES party would take place at this popular hotspot. Much to our dismay this was hardly a CES party. While the event was free, there was nothing there to really welcome members of CES. It felt awkward being mixed in with the usual hipsters. You can tell if someone was a CES member by seeing people text back and forth on one side of the club. We only stayed for about three hours. Had CES really put any effort to make this the "official" party, it would have been fun.
