Vic Mignogna: American Voice Actor Rocks Club Nokia by Emil Mombay

Returning to AX as one of its guests of honor, Vic Mignogna kicked off Day 2 of Anime Expo with a stunning concert that had him rock Club Nokia’s ruckus crowd. The fans were swarming in, waiting for Vic to appear on stage but suddenly, the lights began to dim. Much to the surprise of the crowd, the show started with him appearing on stage floor alongside the fans, singing the opening song of Dragon Ball Z Kai. He slowly walked towards his fiancée who was also among the crowd while continuously hugging everyone around him. This concert was pretty much that, Vic interacting fully with the crowd, showing his appreciation and talking about how it all started, while still singing his own songs to make it an actual concert of course. In one moment of the show, he picked out three fans to sing “Soldier A” with him on stage while clips of various “random soldier grunts” are shown in the background. He also showed a short video he directed and also starred in with his fellow Full Metal Alchemist co-stars called Full Metal Fantasy, which featured the cast cosplaying and acting out their respected characters from the show. Throughout all of this, Vic also took some time to share his thoughts surrounding his work and passion for Anime in the concert. He even sang certain songs from Barry Manilow and Elton John who served as inspirational figures in his childhood. He concluded the show with one last original song and encouraged his fans to follow their passions as well. The concert overall was very successful, as evidenced by the crowd’s initial and final reaction, and certainly with Vic’s personality, made it a memorable experience.

Kalafina: Three Voices Create a Magical Concert by Kyra Perez

Kalafina is a three- person group consisting of three wonderful women named. Wakana Otaki, Keiko Kubota, and Hikaru Masai. The group was created by the prominent composer Yuki Kajiura in 2007. Despite the fact these three were Japanese and had to read off their messages as a script, both in English and Japanese, they brought joy to the American fanbase in Los Angeles, California. Anime Expo attendees warmly welcomed Kalafina to the Club Nokia. Wakana, Keiko, and Hikaru had sang their hearts out to the people at the venue. The concert started off with their hit song “Lacrimosa” featured in the anime called Kuroshitsuji, literally Black Butler. Many of the attendees of this concert were lucky enough to get free tickets to the concert. And to ensure their access into the concert, hardcore fans went and bought their tickets online. Those that had went because of that free ticket, without knowing what to expect from this concert, had probably became new fans of the group. From what I saw, you could actually say that everyone in Club Nokia were bobbing their heads/ moving their bodies to the rhythm or waving their glowsticks in unison. It seemed to me that right after their new song from the magical girl anime called Puella Magi Madoka Magica, literally Magical Girl Madoka of the Magus, everyone had been enjoying themselves to the fullest. Wakana's goddess-like voice, Keiko's low yet strong voice, and Hikaru's sweet high voice. With all three of their voices in sync with the melodic guitar and beat, who wouldn't say that this concert was indeed magical? Kalafina had ended their concert with two songs named “I Have A Dream” from the animated movie called Eve no Jikan, literally Time of Eve, and “Hikari no Senritsu” from the anime Sora no Oto, literally Sounds of the Sky, along with a message saying that they will be back to entertain and visit us once again.

Maon Kurosaki Mini Concert: Midnight Bliss by Jared Griego

We decided to wrap up the night by hitting the Maon Kurosaki mini-concert. The concert was held within the convention center and was not as large as the main event concerts. However, Maon Kurosaki put on a great show and got the audience worked up. Everyone had a great time hearing live performances of song from Highschool of the Dead and A Certain Magical Index 2. After the concert we realized how late it had become and decided to wrap things up for the day.
