Friday was the big Evangelion day. There were two Evangelion cosplay gatherings and there was the Funimation premiere of the new Evangelion feature length film, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone. We planned for the second cosplay gathering at 6PM. Having seen the new Evangelion movie already, we decided to mingle with fans of the series. First, Deb and I took single shots by the fountain at the Omni Los Angeles. We had to wait a while for the shuttle to arrive. We were greeted by Stan at the Soul Eater gathering. Deb and I joked that we should get my ball joint dolls to cosplay from Soul Eater. We ran into more friends on the way to the dealer’s room. Thanks to our friends at Funimation, there was a nice Evangelion themed classroom set up. This space was utilized by the ACP cosplayers Funimation hired. While they were there, they played elementary school games like Hang Man, Pictionary, and Heads Up Seven Up. Winners would get a poster. While Funimation / ACP cosplayers were out to help promote Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, we decided to take photos of us playing around in the classroom. In this unseen episode of Evangelion, the opening chalkboard standards sequence reads, “I must not run away.” We’re not sure of how the couch gag goes, but it involves clones of Rei doing a chorus line. The episode opens up with Misato giving a lecture – “What Do You If Third Impact Happens?” Shinji dozes off in his own world while thinking about tracks 25 and 26 on Linkin Park’s Greatest Hits CD. Apple does not exist in Neo Tokyo. Kaji also manages to take a nap during class being that he’s today’s guest lecturer. Shinji comes up with the answer to “What Do You Do If Third Impact Happens?” And Kaji would like to point out an important fact: Many thanks to Becky and Miguel for photo assistance! Many thanks to Funimation for letting us cos-"play" in classroom set up. In between the 6PM Evangelion gathering, we wandered around the dealer’s room just window shopping and browsing around. The Evangelion gathering started at 6PM at gathering site #1. We had clones of Rei, and interestingly enough, clones of Kaji. What is the singular Shinji to do? Though I did find it funny that a fanboy decided to jump into the Asuka and Rei group shot. Just goes to show you that Asuka and Rei adoration is timeless. However, the best part was when Shinji got revenge on his father, Gendou Ikari. The cosplayers had fun using Deb (Shinji), particularly the three Kaji instructing Shinji to be more romantic. Of course, being Misato (Evangelion: A Human Work) was just as fun. Overall, I had a great time at the Evangelion gathering it was much more relaxed than the Pokemon gathering. It was also nice talking to Evangelion fans as well. After the gathering, Stan, Justin, Jared, Deb, and I went to ESPN Sports Zone for a filling meal. I had my usual Cosmopolitan and Jared has his usual Whiskey and Coke. Deb and I shared a plate of cheese fries enough to accommodate us. In addition, we were watching the Dodgers vs. Padres game in which Manny Ramirez makes a triumphant return. We went back to the convention center to find more cosplayers while the Anime Music Video contest was screening. Jared and I caught the Action category screening. Though I did not attend any Asian Ball Joint Doll gatherings, I went to this Ball Joint Doll gathering. After all, Transformers do have ball joints! For the most part, we winded down the evening by spending time with friends and Girugamesh shenanigans. Pictures are copyright by Scarlet Rhapsody. If I took your picture, feel free to use it on your site or cosplay gallery. While you're here, do sign the guestbook. This site was brought to you by the font Forte Script.
