Last year’s Pokemon gathering was a great success. Would the epic gathering return for another round of trainer and gijinka battle? Deb (Ash Ketchum), Jared (Giovanni), a resin kid named Scarlet (Sabrina's Doll), and I (Sabrina). This was the first time I used my ball joint doll (Custom House Choa) as a cosplay prop. I have been meaning to cosplay as Sabrina for a while since she has always been my favorite gym leader. We waited at the shuttle stop with these cosplayers. We ran into them every now and then at the shuttle stop. Very friendly people. As a pre-cursor to the Pokemon gathering, we ran into our buddy Shane (Brock) for photos. Cosplayers were alive and kicking on Friday. The Bleach gathering was getting warmed up. Due to abdomen pain, I had to sit that one out. For the most part, we just walked around, found friends, and window shopped in the dealer’s room. We also found a few American voice actors from Bang Zoom hanging out at the food court. Jared would like to note that he is rather protective of his Meowth. Jared also attempted to use the power of a cute Asian Ball Joint Doll to get me to buy him a Mizuho-sensei (Onegai Teacher).
The 12PM lunch rush was rather hectic at the convention center. Many attendees had to resort to finding floor space to enjoy their lunch. We eventually had lunch at the Holiday Inn. Unlike last year, they did not have the pizza so Jared, Deb, and I could split up the cost. However, for $9, Deb and I had a plate of filling appetizers. The Pokemon gathering started earlier than the scheduled time. We must have arrived at 1:50PM. According to Shane, the gathering grouped up as early as 1:30PM. The area was cramped. Neither cosplayers nor photographers took direction to move back to accommodate more space for both parties. Grass types: Water types: Electric types: Psychic types: Fire types: Team Rocket: Brock types: Ash Ketchum types: The highlights of the Pokemon gathering included everyone participating singing the American Pokemon theme song and getting group shots of different types of Pokemon and cast members from different generations. Generation I types: Generation II types: Generation III / IV types: Jared ended up hanging out with his fellow Team Rocket grunts while Deb and I were trying to survive the remainder of the Pokemon gathering. To sum it up in one word – chaotic.
However, we were still able to get single and group shots of our outfits. Once we were done, Deb and I dashed back to the Omni Los Angeles to change up into Evangelion.
