The 4 Queens was not that far from the Cashman Center. However, it would have been a far walk in the 90 degree heat. Thankfully, the hotel provided shuttle service to and from Cashman Center. The shuttles ran every half hour from the entrance of the 4 Queens. We started our Saturday meeting three of the guests of honor at the shuttle stop - Jonathan Osborne, Julie Rei Goldstein, and Kaiji Tang. The five of us were killing time talking about Fate / Stay Night. It was really nice to have a casual conversation with the guests of honor. We were able to arrive at the Cashman Center just in time to see the opening ceremonies conclude. Despite the press department not getting back to us in a timely fashion, we were still able to register as press. A few people on staff saw the Zero Hour Vlog that I posted before leaving. The crowds were coming in to register and pick up their badges. We met with the cosplay department to talk about the gatherings and various cosplay events going on throughout the weekend. Otherwise, the convention had decent numbers arriving on day one. After all, it was a Saturday, therfore, cosplayers were coming in by the numbers. I was originally going to do the Sailor Moon gathering in conjunction with The Gamer Girls, but since the group had backed out because their costumes were never finished, the gathering was cancelled. However, I did find a few Sailor Moon cosplayers to pose and take pictures with. We stopped by The Gamer Girls panel to support our friend Emerald. Much to our surprise, she was not on the panel. Because of the lack of people in the room, Eric, the head of The Gamer Girls, wanted to make a contest to see who can bring in more people to the 18+ Gamer Girls panel later in the evening. Otherwise, Eric talked about recruiting new staff members for the website - specific to podcasters and photographers. Anime Vegas has a decent sized dealers' hall for the convention's small size. There was also a blood drive going on during Anime Vegas. Jared thought about donating blood. Though it was not a bad idea, it is always wise to have decent meal prior to giving blood. Unfortunately, Anime Vegas does not have many eateries in the surrounding area. Speaking of food, we also discovered that the Ichigo Cafe did not have a venue this year. However, they could be found in the artist alley. I talked to Mei what Ichigo Cafe is all about.
One interesting dealer we found in the hall was booth named Hueco Mundo. The owners were dressed up as Tousen, Gin, and Aizen and acted in character. Jared dressed up as Otacon from Metal Gear Solid 2. We were able to find a Snake. The Snake had a crab to battle with. For the first time, Jared found a Snake to pose with as Otacon. Otherwise, for most of Saturday's early hours, we simply wandered and took cosplayer photos. There was not too much of interest going on as far as panels were concerned. Phantomhive Ball would not be until later in the night. It was a challenge to find locations to take nice cosplay photos. I debuted my Mistess Nine from Sailor Moon. I was happy the cosplay recieved much recognition from Anime Vegas attendees. In this Adult Swim infested world, I was unsure if people would remember Sailor Moon. We had to wait a while before the shuttle got back to the Cashman Center. Because it was 90 degrees outside, we wanted to stay in the nice and cool Cashman Center. We ran into a group of Ouran High School Host Club cosplayers who brought their babies along for the group. Nothing cuter than a baby Honey and baby Renge. Finally, the shuttle had arrived so we can finally grab a late lunch and change into our Phantomhive Ball costumes. However, it was nice to pose by the slot machines.
