I woke up bright and early to the scent of bacons and eggs being cooked. My hotelmates were smart to bring a wok and cooking supplies to the convention to avoid the pricey food. Despite coming back to the room late, I had a good night sleep. It was great waking up to a hearty breakfast. My hotelmates and I were going to cosplay from Fate Stay Night. Prior to the Type Moon gathering, I decided to just wander around the dealer's hall. At around 11:30, I went to Erica's (Voice Acting Alliance) voice acting panel. The panel was rather nostalgic considering that I helped organized the 2001 and 2002 voice acting panels. The panel covered the Do's and Don't's of breaking in to the voice acting business. They also talked about the advantage of working in the Chicago area. The Chicago area is the hub for commercial voice over and people with MidWest accents are generally preferred. My favorite part about this panel is that they held a mock audition. Volunteers were picked from the audience to do a cold reading. A video of the mock auditions can be seen here:
There were more cosplayers and cosplay gatherings on Saturday. I stopped by the Gintama gathering briefly to catch their shenanigans on film. Across from the Gintama gathering as a mass impromptu"Caramelldansen" gathering.
At around noon, the Type Moon cosplay gathering commenced. Unfortunately, we had a very small turnout. However, it was really nice getting to know more MidWest people. We had an Assassin, Rider, and Arcueid show up. My roommates missed the gathering. In my hotel room, we had an Atraxia and two different variants of Sabres. Many thanks to my new friends for taking photos of the gathering! Across from the Type Moon gathering, the Assassin's Creed gathering was going on. Our Assassin thought about stopping by and joining the crusades (again). I ran into my friend Brianna who brought her daughter in her Chihiro (Spirited Away) cosplay. It was also fun seeing the wenches dance with the knights. I briefly stopped by the dealer's room to pick up a few Fate Stay Night figures. A dealer told me she could give me a discount for cosplaying as Rin Tohsaka. Because the school uniform variant is hardly done by cosplayers, some dealers thought I was cosplaying as Yomiko Readman (Read or Die). After purchasing a few figures, I decided to grab lunch at the O'H restaurant. I usually like dinning with them because of the Anime Central all you can eat buffet and their burgers. I did not go for the buffet this time, but I settled on a gourmet burger and fries. Not much else was going on through the course of the day. I was just wandering around the dealer's hall and checking out the artist alley. One advantage of this dealer's hall is that the convention center serves ice cream swirls for $2.50. It was not uncommon to see people with ice cream in the dealer's hall. Most of the main Saturday events happened later in the day. Read on to find out about the big surprise at masquerade.
