Now you get to read the story about how we met Frankie Valli during Anime Central, or at least the actor who plays him in the Chicago cast of Jersey Boys. We ran into the Hellsing gathering. Wow! Talk about representing a series! We got the Vatican, Millennium, the gang is all here! There were still more cosplayers to catch on film. Tom's favorite was the Azumanga Daioh groups. We thought that series fell to extinction, but not in the MidWest! To kill time before leaving for downtown Chicago, Tom decided to go through Cereal Geek magazine to read the Transformers articles. We rushed back to the hotel room to get all our gear for downtown Chicago. Luckily, Patrick drove us to the Lasalle Bank Theatre over in downtown. Ever since I found out that Jersey Boys would be playing the same time as Anime Central, we decided to hit it. It was a birthday present for Tom. After all, he did take me to see Jersey Boys for my birthday. Can you spot the bread in the elevator? And now the story how Traveling Valentine met Frankie Valli! Okay, we've seen this cast in San Francisco in August 2007. I was very excited to see Jarrod Spector as Frankie Valli again. Once we were dropped off at theatre, I was literally running towards my fandom. Did I mention we were dressed in Ouran High School Host Club? It was only appropriate because the matching suits is so Jersey Boys-esque. What can I say? I loved the show! I found myself singing along with the music in my head, savoring every moment of it. Jarrod Spector's angelic voice made me melt inside, more than any anime bishounen or some goth J-rocker. I had prepared a card to give him after the show. We waited. And waited. The usher pointed out that he had already walked out. Tom, being the awesome person he is, tried to follow his tracks. My heart sank. I really wanted to give Jarrod the card. But wait! There was someone else who was in the lobby. He was short, had a bit of curls, and was reaching out for his Blackberry. I knew it had to be Jarrod! When he walked outside, in my shyest schoolgirl tone of voice, I said, "Excuse me, Jarrod Spector?" He turned around, and in the most embarrassed anime girl tone of voice, I said, "This is for you!" I gave him the card. We took a picture. Jarrod welcomed us to say "hi" again to him whenever we're around. He headed to where he was going. Then a sudden burst of "Sakura Kiss" filled through me. I was in fangirl heaven. Well, downtown Chicago on a rainy night is not so much heaven. We had to get back to Rosemont. Tom and I were in idiot tourist mode. We didn't know which train to take back to Rosemont. Luckily, we were able to figure it out just fine. It took us about 40 minutes to get back to Rosemont. By the time we got back, masquerade was letting out. Just for laughs, I yelled, "Jersey Boys Rocks!" Of course, Tom had to sustain my fangirly-ness! Everyone who is reading this, go see Jersey Boys. It's better than Avenue Q! Wow! We got back at around midnight. We saw a little bit of Fate Stay Night on television. We wandered around to see what was going on. Spoony Bards were still playing at the parlor. Kevin was still snapping pictures. We met a fellow cosplay photographer, The Real Link (aka Fullerton). By the time it was 2AM, we decided to get our needed beauty rest if we were ever going to check out later that day. Pictures are copyright byTraveling Valentine.
