Fantine – Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette<\/strong><\/p>\n

For the longest time, I had wanted to cosplay from \u201cLes Miserables: Shoujo Cosette.\u201d It took me years to finally get the gumption to do so. Cosplay, at least to me, is about representing the fandoms you love. I haven\u2019t seen any cosplay from \u201cLes Miserables: Shoujo Cosette.\u201d I\u2019ve been on a Les Miserables kick lately. I recently saw the tour in San Francisco on my birthday and I\u2019m really looking forward to the movie coming out later this year.<\/p>\n

It was hard to choose between Cosette, Eponine, or Fantine. I choose Fantine because I had a pattern that was close to her main outfit<\/p>\n

I used Simplicity 4136<\/strong> as a base pattern for Fantine. I find it funny that I\u2019m using elements from Glinda and Elphaba to create Fantine. I used Elphaba\u2019s sleeves for the bodice and used Glinda\u2019s main bodice. The skirt was a simple three panel deal.<\/p>\n

The bodice has a very interesting shape to it. While the original design shows no seam line at the waist, I decided to make a peplum to give the outfit more personality.<\/p>\n

I got all of the fabric and materials from Windmill Fabrics in downtown Boston. The total for this polycotton set was around $30. I haven\u2019t worked with polycotton in a while – most of my projects have been polyester based in the past couple of years due to downtown LA\u2019s notorious sales on $1 a yard polyester.<\/p>\n

Assembling the main bodice was easy. I had to improvise with the center part of the bodice. Fantine has an opening in the front. I just made two center bodices and folded the darker blue. The next step was to make sure the darker blue aligned right with the peplum piece.<\/p>\n

I used navy bias tape for the accents. I still have to add bias tape at the edge of the peplum.<\/p>\n

I still have yet to get a wig for Fantine. In this version, she has long butterscotch hair. I\u2019m hoping to get the Persephone wig from Epic Cosplay to complete the set before the next con.<\/p>\n
