Mew – Pokemon – Magical Girl

<\/strong>Mew has been my favorite Pokemon for as long as I can remember. I remember watching the first movie when I rented it from the local Japanese video store. We were the first in line to get the holographic Mew trading card when the American version of the movie was released in theatres. While I have cosplayed as Gijinka Persian (twice) and have a new Persian ready for Anime Expo, I decided to make a magical girl version of Mew ready for KatsuCon.<\/p>\n

It started after my trip to Another Anime Convention in New Hampshire. Someone in the Artist Alley was selling Pokemon cosplay accessories. There was a Mew set up on there that I decided to buy. I had the idea sitting on the shelf for a while until it finally hit me – magical girl Mew.<\/p>\n

Fabric<\/strong><\/p>\n

I had plenty of lite pink fabric around my house.I had pink corduroy from my grandma from back in 2003. Another friend used the same for genderbent Magical Madoka. I used it for the coat. For the coat lining, I still had plenty of satin leftover from Shadow Yukiko. For the vest, it\u2019s actually from an old computer cover my mom made out of corduroy. The dress is made from fabric from a good friend (thanks Sonia).

Creation<\/strong><\/p>\n

I used a pattern from Simplicity that was originally a knock off Leg Avenue pattern for sexy pirate. I also used pieces from another pattern to get a fuller skirt. I made a two tier circle skirt. What makes the skirt so ruffle-y and so full is because I used horse braid at the hem. I used this tutorial by Anime Angel to get the job done<\/a>.If you plan to use horse hair braid, get A LOT. I had to do two trips to get enough horse hair braid for Mew.<\/p>\n

The vest is held together by elastic. It took me a while to figure out how to make a vest. I found heart shaped buttons for added effect. The jacket is directly from the Simplicity pattern. I guess I just liked the design of it that i had to do it. The reason why there\u2019s two bows on the jacket front is because I made a mistake on the front and since this was an original design, I decided to add two bows to hide the mistake. When in doubt, add bows.<\/p>\n

Other add ins for Mew is wearing my pink OTK socks from Baby the Stars Shine Bright. I also have a pair of high heels from Forever 21 that would complete the look. Gothic Lolita Wigs also gave me a free pink wig when I purchased a new wig from them. My hair will be a cute pink bob.<\/p>\n

This took me about two months to complete. I\u2019m really looking forward to wear it at KatsuCon. A few friends liked the idea of magical girl legendary Pokemon. This was a pretty easy project. I hope to one day teach Mewtwo the magic of friendship and love.<\/p>\n
