I had no plans of attending Yaoi-Con 2008. Registration issues from last year left me with a sour taste for the convention. But when I heard of the new performances and reduced prices for Yaoi events on the weekend, I was won over. Nothing appeals to me better than paying $20 for a $60 event.

The first change I noticed this year was the improved online registration procedure. Last year, I paid at the door for my Yaoi-Con registration badge. Usually, there's nothing wrong with that. But in a suspicious one in a million chance, the billing department screwed up my registration payment by NOT charging my credit card for nearly a year. A lot happened to me in a year, including reporting the credit card used for Yaoi-Con registration stolen when someone stole it. After a few emails and discussions, I finally decided not to register onsite for Yaoi-Con again.

But this year's Yaoi-Con registration process was brand new. It was a totally different Yaoi-Con. It might not have been Yaoi-Con at all. After ordering my ticket and squinting through the squiggly word verification entry process (I hate that online security method), I entered my credit card number and within minutes, my registration was confirmed, my credit card was charged, and I was ready to attend. Pay attention, Yaoi-Con, THAT'S how you get things done.

And judging from the location and banners lining the street, this Yaoi-Con venue was new. There were the main panels and con antics at the San Mateo Marriott San Francisco Airport Hotel. But if you wanted to see some genuinely talented men singing, dancing, AND stripping, you could visit the American Musical Theatre of San Jose (AMTSJ) for an unforgettable show.
