For a straight otaku to go to this convention (sorry ladies), was quite intriguing. This was my first time at Yaoi Con. Yeah, I met the age requirements. ^^; I knew I would just attend a day since I'm so bogged down with midterms. In the two weeks before Yaoi Con, I had attended AniMagic over in Southern Cali. The week before, I went home to Long Beach to visit my folks. Hence, I could not attend Metreon's Festival of Anime. ;_; Sad, isn't it? My friends Katie-Kotori, Monique-Arashi, Karrie-Inuki, Dom-Yuzu, and Andrew-Nataku had the best of times. It was time for a convention to relieve my mind off schoolwork and school life.

The original plan was to have Michi take me down there. However, she would be at her father's place during that time. The next option would be to ask Debbie, but she made a few promises to be with friends that weekend. During the Sonoma State anime club meeting, Sean said he could find me a ride over there. Sean is a part of the upcoming Duelist Club. His otaku friend convert, Nick, said he could give us a ride over there. They seemed not to mind the gay nature of the convention. After all, they were going to go to Japan Town to get staffs for the club.

The night before the con (Friday for me!), my roommates decided to throw a drinking party. That kept me up some. I woke up and I found there were a few things in my room that shouldn't have been there. So, I quickly dashed to the bathroom to get my Wolfwood costume on. I was originally going to go as Pepper, but thought Wolfy would be a better choice as far as the con's theme went.

I met up with Sean and Nick over at Verdot Village. We all hopped in the SUV and headed towards the nearby banks. Got some gas and headed towards the city by the bay. I knew the way to Van Ness, but not the actual hotel itself. Once we hit Lombard, I gave Ace a call. However, the call was cut off for whatever reason. We went left, and ended up at Fisherman's wharf. So we turned the other way around. Ace was able to reach me and tell me where to go from there. We eventually found our way to the Holiday Inn. ^_^v

We got parking. Sean was pissed to find that the Wells Fargo was right next door to the hotel. ^_^; We went downstairs to register. I didn't know if I wanted to get a badge or not.I was reluctant at the time. I ran into Albert and some of his friends. They were heading out to lunch over at a Chinese place. Since Nick, Sean, and I were hungry anyway, we decided to join them. We walked all the way towards there. As a college student on a 10 meals a week plan, it was so nice to have real food. I started to really pig out. I had some extra fried rice left and I did not want it to go to waste. I got myself a take out bag to bring back to the apartment. We walked down back to the convention area. Albert instructed Sean and Nick how to get to J-town. I went with Ms. Catboy Boyscout to her hotel to drop off the rice. (whoops! forgot about that, sweetie!)

Afterwards I decided to purchase a badge. The staff gave me a bag full of "porn and hentai." Not that it interested me...I entered the dealer's room. It was tiny as AniMagic's. I ran into Chris Tang with my catchphrase, "Katie says, 'Hi!'" We talked a bit. I met up with Kenny, also another friend of Katie's. In fact, the previous day, I realized he was the same Kenny that Katie was always drooling about. ^_^; So yeah. Nice to chat with them. I ran into Ace, AJ, and Tony. To my biggest surprise, TK was there! XD Love them red eye contacts! *^^* She was there to promote her manga type thing. I took a look at her artwork.

Chris Tang Carole and Myself A.J. and Tony As you can see, Wolfwood prefers The Angels His Euro Highness

Afterwards, Ace, AJ, and Tony invited me to join them to eat over at Japan Town. Since Albert and his company already took me to lunch, I decided to go out again. Plus, I have never been to Japan Town in my life, so I decided to try something new. I never had the opportunity to experience transportation via bus. Let me tell you that it was very interesting. Y-con was during the time of the World Series. As a former native of Long Beach, now living in Sonoma County, a part of me still remains loyal to the South. We had a few Giants fans on the bus. I muttered, "Go Angels!" Ace advised that SF isn't the best of places to show my Southern side. ^^;

Meanwhile in Japantown... Wolfwood goes Japan

We went to the nearest bus stop to Japan Town. Going to Japan Town was very nice. It's different from Mitsuwa back in Torrance.It was almost like the mall in Little Saigon back in Huntington Beach. We went over to their "usual place." I only ordered water. We talked about our convention lives and how low we've been doing the convention thing. We went over to Video Japan. Lots and lots of anime galore! *_* I was thinking of getting the Sakura Taisen movie, but I felt I needed to know more about it before I blow $25. Must stop by there one day again...

We decided to walk back to the Holiday Inn so we can catch up for the masquerade. I bought the last DVD for Princess Nine and hurried back upstairs. I waited with Ace and company. I decided to check out the gaming room out of curiosity. They had Para Para set up! *^^* I decided to try my hand at that. After doing "Deluxe," I went over to catch up to the masquerade. I was fortunate enough to get a front row seat. ^_^; There were a few good skits. I liked Carole's the best. (the Yaoi-land skit) Of course, I have to give props to the X / 1999 and Tokyo Babylon ones. ^_^; It was a short masquerade, but enjoyable.

After that, there was a massive photo op gathering. I met another Wolfwood cosplayer. ^_^; Albert and a Kenshin cosplayer took some rather interesting pictures. Afterwards, I was around in the lobby. Sean, Ziggy Butt, his friend, and Nick were talking about going to a sushi place. So we headed out over there for dinner. Again, the three college students were in heaven having real food. Sean told us the story about trying to get his staffs across town. He and Nick must have had weird stares carrying around their bamboo staffs back to Van Ness.

going out to eat

After dinner, it was time to get home. I said my goodbyes to my San Franciscan Crew, and hopefully we should see each other come Japan Town or Halloween. Overall, Y-con was great. It's more of a hang out convention. It's just really nice to friends again -- friends I don't see so often. I would do it again, but the only problem is the pricing. I pretty much only wanted to get into the dealer's room. I could have lived without the masquerade. However, it was a good small convention. Shall come back next year. ^_^

I also have committed a great injustice...I cross dressed against my lover's wishes. ^_^; Oh, and thanks Sakurazuka for the scanning-ness!
