Quick Draw by Jared
While there are many panels that praise comic artists, Quick Draw is a panel focused on the silly side of art. Floyd Norman of Disney, Scot Shawl of The Simpsons, and animator Mike Kazaleh try their hand at improvisational art. The audience will shout things out and the artists will try to draw them on the spot. In addition the artists would play games such as one artist drawing the top half of a character and another artist drawing the bottom half without looking at the other's drawing. This is a fun panel for those who want a laugh at some silly pictures. One of the biggest surprises of the panel was a live call with Sergio Aragones (Mad Magazine) from his hospital bed who gave the artists silly ideas for pictures. Quick Draw is a great panel for those looking for a nice laugh in the middle of their convention experience.

It was 30 years ago today: Celebrating 1982-Greatest Geek Year Ever!
by Jared
Taking a look at the pop culture of yesteryear the "1982 panel" went over the amazing line up of movies from 1982. The panel featured Jeff Bond (Geek Monthly), Robert Meyer Burnett (Free Enterprise), Steve Melchung (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and Ashley E. Miller (X-Men: First Class). It is amazing how many great sci-fi/fantasy movies came out in 1982 including: ET, The Dark Crystal, Conan the Barbarian, The Road Warrior, The Thing, Tron, Blade Runner, and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. One of the movies that we had never heard of, but would be a great bad movie night title is Megaforce (trailer here). The panel was both nostalgic and funny. It was great hearing how much impact these movies had on the nerds of today.

After the panel Jared was lucky enough to have a conversation with one of his heroes from this panel Robert Meyer Burnett. Not only did Mr. Burnett write Free Enterprise , but he also worked on the documentaries on Superman Returns, Tron, Valley Girl, and is the director of Femme Fatales. The conversation ranged from the anticipated Free Enterprise 2 to Logan 's Run and classic nerd movies. It was great to meet the one of the men behind Free Enterprise a movie Jared holds very close to his heart. This is one of the best parts of the convention as most guests are relaxed enough to spend time with fans talking about their influences and their work.

The Nerdist Panel by Jared
While the program guide may have said TBA, it did not stop the room from filling up for The Nerdist panel. The Nerdist podcast features Chris Hardwick and the panel also had some familiar faces from G4 and the Nerdist production team. The highlight of the panel was people coming up and asking questions of the panelists. The panel was a humor filled good time. It is always fun seeing a live version of a podcast and this panel was no exception.  If you have a chance check out a live show with a podcast team, it is a fun experience.

Superman vs. The Elite by Jared

One of the most anticipated panels of day one was the premeire of Superman vs. The Elite. This is the newest DC animated feature by Bruce Timm. The movie was a reinterpretation for Action Comics 775, a comic that look at the revelance of Superman in the modern world. The movie was enjoyable and the panel was followed up by a Q&A session and a sneak peek of the next major DC animation project The Dark Knight Returns. The question section also included some great prizes for those who asked really good questions. You can see our footage of some of the questions here and look forward to the release of Superman vs The Elite later this year.
