The weekend was coming down to a close. The team decided to end the weekened by dressing up as Black Butler characters. Check out ran smooth without any hassels. Sunday still had plenty of events going down from voice actors, autographs, dolls, last minute sales, stick fighting, and food trucks.

Before we started out the day, the Cosplay Fest green room had a costume repair station available. Victoria had a few frays from her Maylene cosplay that had to be fixed up. Not only they were able to provide a pair of scissors, they also had a fray check adhesive to prevent further frays along the hem. This repair station not only takes take of mishaps, but also provides extra care in preventing further damage.

No Need for Nostalgia: The Ladies of Tenchi Muyo by Jeff

Before the panel started, I ran into the cast while at press registration going over the press panels and after that proceeded to over to the panel room which had a larger than expected turnout. Tenchi is just one of those shows I didn’t expect to be so big 15 years later, but surprise surprise, the turnout despite making the room standing only was amazing. It just goes to show how much of an impact Tenchi has had on anime fans back when it aired on Cartoon Network. The panel went off without a hitch despite the crowding and surprisingly enough the first question asked by Cristina Vee was about said impact on the fans which the actors were in shock and awe that so many people came out just for them. That really set the tone for the rest of them panel as stories from the booth were told, favorite moments from the series were recalled and stories about how they got into voice acting were told. It was an interesting panel however it was cut short by 15 minutes and ended early so the actors could begin their autograph signing which had an equally long line. Overall it was a fun panel and as a pleasant surprise it wasn’t plagued by the same questions voice actor fans constantly ask, my gripe with this was why they couldn’t hold it in main events or just a bigger room period, the overcrowding got to the point where it could’ve been a fire hazard and I felt really claustrophobic the entire time standing up. Hopefully next time PMX decides to reunite actors from a classic anime they take into account how the turnout for the event might be.

Small Voices, Big Dreams: Cristina Vee by Jeff

Once Tenchi ended the room cleared out and was no longer overflowing and thus Cristina Vee’s panel began. While most of the audience left the Tenchi panel for the autograph session this didn’t bring the panel down as Cristina spoke about what she’s been up to for the last few months. This included titles she’s been working on such as Squid Girl, K-On, Dynasty Warriors 7, BlazBlue and several others such as voice directing the new indie fighting game Skullgirls, but she also mentioned being in several shows she couldn’t talk about.. Because of the small audience, you had the luxury of not hearing the same generic questions from fanboys. Most of the questions were geared towards: how to break into voice acting, dream roles, the occasional line request, and cosplay plans. The panel ended on a sweet note when one fan from the audience gave Cristina a handmade cake with cream cheese frosting and strawberries. We all agreed that it took the cake for most unusual gift given to her at a con.

Still in Love with Tenchi by Jeff

Once Cristina Vee’s panel ended I rushed over to the Press room for the press version of the Tenchi Muyo reunion because I knew in a press setting the room wouldn’t be filled up to the point of standing room only and the setting would be more intimate between the actors and audience. This was my first time doing a press style panel and honestly I found it more enjoyable than the public version. Although only 3/4th’s of the cast showed up for the press version we still got a lot of great stories from their days working on the show and other stories from the booth which are always interesting to hear. In the end, they admitted how thankful they were that Tenchi still had quite the following almost 15 years later and proceeded to greet us by posing for pictures and talking with us. As someone who grew up with Tenchi on Toonami back in the day being reunited with my childhood was nothing short of magical and seeing the women behind those characters brought a huge smile to my face.

Dolls and Other Delights: Winding Down Day Three by Jared and Victoria

The game room was set up near the karaoke room and was easy to get in and out of. There was no fanboy funk and the queue for each game was relatively short. I loved seeing the classic games such as Punch Out sitting alongside new hits like Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Super Street Fighter IV. There was not much time to play, but it was still fun to check out some of the matches.

We took one final trip to the dealer hall on Sunday. We stopped by a wig booth and decided to dig through their bargain bin. In the process Jared dug out a brown wig that may find use in a future project. Victoria picked up a wig and won the raffle and picked up a second wig at a discounted price. The dealer hall may have had a limited selection of non-fashion goods, but the discount wigs were a nice touch for the cosplayer getting ready for their new 2012 projects.

Every year, Pacific Media Expo hosts The Way of the Stick and Blade, a Filipino martial arts tournament. The team decided to check out the stick fighting tournament during lunch. For lunch, we decided to grab Hawaiian Filipino fusion food from Truck Norris. It's great that PMX brings in food trucks every year to celebrate one of the best parts of Asian culture - the food. Not to mention, it's nice to have something to eat (on a budget) that is not Carl's Jr. or Denny's.

Sunday also had an asian ball joint doll programming track. Deb and Victoria decided to check it out since Deb was quite interested in doing face ups. Respectively, Deb and Victoria brought their dolls, Kamui and Bianca to the panel. The face up panel was highly informative about what goes on in the face up process, or painting a face and makeup on a resin doll. The hostess even mentioned that it can be a dangerous hobby because of the use of Mr. Super Clear as several face up artists have had to retire from the art because of lung difficulties.

The day was winding down to an end. The team already felt exhausted by the 3PM hour. We said our bye-bye-for-now's to our friends and colleagues. Per usual, we had our victory dinner at the local Red Robins. In Pacific Media Expo tradition, we typically imitate something that happened on the latest episode of South Park. This time, we decided to Occupy Red Robins.
