My thoughts going into Pacific Media Expo was that I was finally looking forward to an event in which I can see my friends and bask in Asian popular culture. While Scarlet Rhapsody primarily reports on anime conventions, our recent coverage has expanded to include comic book events and series specific events (Power MorphiCon and RT25). It was finally nice to end 2010 with a convention that has always scored brownie points in my book. When I heard that Innocent World was making their US debut, I was very excited since it is my favorite brand of the Lolita style. Also, we were asked to run a panel on cheesy Tagalog movies. We were very honored to add to Pacific Media Expo’s pan Asian programming.

This year we could not make it early to the first day of Pacific Media Expo due to real life.  However, knowing that life was going to slow down our trip we made sure to grab a nice dinner in the South Bay to avoid traffic.  After that Victoria and I were off to Pasadena. We arrived at our destination at around 8:30PM.

The hotel check in went really quick and we got up to our room easily enough.  However, we did find it odd that a security guard was standing by the elevators only letting in people with room keys.  We were given no official word as to why security was increased, but we heard several rumors none of which we will acknowledge.

After we got settled we decided to head down to get our badges.  Victoria had arrived dressed in her Rin (Fate/Stay Night) cosplay and I was dressed normal due to time restrictions.  We made our way to the press room, but we were told it was closed for the night.  Thus we decided to hang out with friends.  I had been told by several of my convention buddies to call when I arrived and I did so leading to several conversations about us showing up late due to real life.

One event that we missed due to avoiding traffic was the Anime Nightclub. This seemed like a fun event for old school anime fans. A few of the original voice cast for Robotech were present: Richard Epcar, Mike Reynolds, Michael Sorich, Steve Kramer, and Scott Paige Pagter. In addition, the event honored Carl Macek's memory and contributions to anime's early days in the United States. The event concluded with a roast of Mike Reynolds. Fellow voice actor, Justin Daube and Victoria ran into Richard Epcar after the roast. He talked about how awesome the show was. This was one event we wished we did not missed. We hope that PMX hosts events that cater to old school anime fans (aka - The 85ers) in the future.

The evening passed by quickly and we had fun catching up with friends from both Southern and Northern California.  It was great to see our friends from the bay area once again.  We had a great time hanging out, but we decided to head back up to the room to get some rest after our busy day of work and personal obligations.
