Pacific
Media Expo (PMX) took place on November 7 - 9, 2008, at the LAX Hilton.
It was easy to attend if you flew in from out of town. Take a shuttle from
LAX and you're there. PMX attempted to differentiate itself from the
typical anime convention by celebrating Pacific Asian popular culture.
The main focus of PMX were the music acts. However, the 2008 guest line
up was lackluster. The main headlining acts were Suicide
Ali and Kaya - two Japanese indie rock bands. Likewise, several attendees did
not care for these events.
The
best way to look at PMX was as a general "mingling" con where
friends create their own fun. This year's PMX theme is based on the South Park episode, About
Last Night. Much of it can be blamed on otaku celebrating Obama's
win.

It's
Obama-bama! PMX was in full swing after 5PM. Many attendees fought
the brutal 405 to make it on Day 1. Ain't no party like an Anime
Los Angeles party. |
Saturday |
You
Came and Gave Without Taking
Saturday's
highlights included the doll gathering in the morning, Baccano! gathering in the afternoon, and attempting to find a decent place
for dinner. |

Our favorite aspect of PMX is
the karaoke room. For the price of registration, you sing all
