The masquerade was getting seated as we walked in. Tom and I were lucky to get in because the room was filled to capacity. Not many seats were open. There was one press seat open, yet you could only fit so many people into one room. Hopefully PMX has learned its lesson to get a larger room for major cosplay events.

The Cosplay Fest was hosted by Darryl Wong. Wayne Kaa, Wayne Carter, and Evil Bishounen judged. There were a total of 14 acts. Some of the highlights included Rozen Maiden cosplayers dancing to "I Got No Strings" from Pinochio. Arrncar style Orihime singing "On My Own" from Les Miserables. A few walk ons graced the stage - Gaara, Neji, a Sage from Ragnorok Online, Lulu, among others.

During halftime, Anything Goes School of Masquerade Arts showcased their previous masquerade entries on film. We got to see past presentations from Anime Expo, San Diego Comic Con, and World Con. Yet, the best part was when videos of the masquerade host were shown. It gave Darryl a run for his money.

The winners of Cos Fest 2007 were...

Wayne Kaa's Award - Maybe I'm a Cloud-o
Evil Bishounen - Orihime - On My Own
Wayne Carter's Award - Fate Stay Night

Presentation - Plague of Lint

Honorable Mention - Neji
Honorable Mention - Lulu
Honorable Mention Group - Rozen Maiden
Best Craftsmanship - Breath of Fire

Best of Show - Tengen

Tom and I still had some time to kill after the cosplay show. Our flight to New York would not be until later in the evening. We were interviewed by Atsuko from Variety Japan. She was interested in the popularity of anime in the United States. Of couse, we had a lot to say on that topic considering that was our part of our senior thesis back in college. Atsuko was very sweet and she was mesmerized by the amount of cosplayers. She asked us to reccomend her some manga. I told her she should read Nana. Tom recommended JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Azumanga Daioh. Her PMX article will be published in late December.

For the rest of the night, it was mainly Tom, Stan, and I just chilling the lobby people watching. Anela and Jason came by to talk about the game. We were just looking at the Lolis taking over the staircase, people running around in furry slippers and bathrobes, and there was a faint sound of a concert by the Slants somewhere in the distance.

It was finally 9:30PM. Tom and I took the shuttle to LAX to catch our flight to New York City. PMX was a good con. It was a nice way to hammer down the 2007 convention season. Yet, we would return to the same place in two weeks time...
