The Memorial Day Weekend Bash took place in Little Tokyo on May 25. While many cosplayers made their way to San Jose for Fanime those who stayed in SoCal had their own event to attend. Cosplayers gathered in Weller Court to hang out and have fun throughout the day. The event was hosted by Infotakus and brought together cosplayers to have fun a start to the holiday weekend.

Weller Court is located in Little Tokyo and functions as one of the major shopping centers along with the Little Tokyo mall. There are a couple different places to eat including Orochon Ramen one of our favorite ramen places. There are shops that sell clothes and tchotchkes as well as a nice Japanese book store. It is an open multi-level shopping center and it works well for gatherings in the Little Tokyo area.

The event was rather calm and began with a small group of people around 11AM. As time passed more and more people showed up to the gathering. Cosplayers dressed from several different series including Highschool of the Dead, Vocaloid, Digimon, and Naruto. Everyone had a good time talking to each other and meeting new friends. Due to the misplacement of some accessories I did not cosplay and instead wore my parody Trek uniform with the “expendable” red shirt. While some people went off to other areas to get quick photoshoots most of the people were happy to stay in the shopping center and chat with other cosplayers.

It is nice to go to a small gathering of laid back people. Too many times gatherings get ruined by immature kids running around and being noisy. While this gathering did get a little loud it seemed like everyone was being respectful of each other and of the local businesses. If you have the opportunity to go to an Infotakus gathering then I would recommend it. They are fun, laid back, and a great way to meet new people. Hopefully we will be going to more of their events in the future.
