Cosplay Ice Skating at Frog Pond took place on December 21, 2013 in the Boston Commons. The park is pretty huge and the frog pond is a go-to place for the holidays. There a line that circles the rink; it's a nice holiday destination. Ice skating at the outdoor pond is an annual tradition for the New England cosplay community. People as far as Rhode Island and New Hamsphire come up for this event. Skating costs $4 to use the rink and another $9 for skate rental. While I did not skate this time around, I helped New England Cosplay Community take photos for their holiday cosplay contest. The winner would get a photo shoot with Marmalade Sky Photography and props made by Ratchet Cosplay. This also included a freee ticket to the Anime Zakka year end holiday party. To celebrate the season (Happy Solistice!) I cosplayed Adorabeezle Winterpop from Sugar Rush (the game within the movie from Wreck it Ralph).

The event was advertised on Facebook by Boston Cosplay Ice Skating. Boston had some interesting weather patterns prior to the event. Weather reports mentioned for a 60% chance of rain, but it looked like most of the rain would come in on Sunday. We were good to go for Saturday. The event has a pretty decent turnout. I would say that there was not as many cosplayers on the rink. Most of them gathered in pockets by the playground, statue, and gazebo. The line to go ice skating was fairly long.

At about 3PM, the event organizers held a cosplay photoshoot at the gazebo. It was interesting to see what cosplay had the most representation. Certainly, Homestuck cosplayers were dominant. This was also followed by Hetalia and Attack on Titan cosplay. Some people even had Christmas holiday versions of their characters.

Overall, the annual cosplay ice skating event is always fun. It's nice to stop by to take photos and catch up with convention buddies. Organizers of this event hope to make it bigger for next year. They hope to rent an indoor rink to accomodate for the large turnout of cosplayers. Thank you once again to the organizers hosting and organizing another successful ice skating event.
