Anime Expo officially took place on June 29 to July 2, 2012 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in downtown Los Angeles. Anime Expo was very limited to the convention center this year due to the X Games. Normally, Anime Expo takes over LA Live. It's also not a shock if cosplayers had photoshoots outside the Staples Center. This year felt cramped and hotter than usual. Anime Expo's theme was focused on turning 21, meaning more late night events and programming for older audiences were emphasized. For the first time, Anime Expo had Lounge 21 for veteran attendees to kick back and relax. The guest line up was a mixed bag of nuts; Funimation pushed their Panty and Stocking release by having the English cast. We also had names like Ryo Horikawa, LiSA, Yuki Kajura, Rikiya Koyama, and others. There were over 21 guests this year.
We went with a Whitney Houston theme for Anime Expo 2012. We were present at an Anime Expo open house when the news broke Houston's passing. Additionally, "One Moment in Time" has been associated with sporting events. Fans gave this year's Anime Expo the nickname, The AX Games.
