Anime Los Angeles 2013 took place on January 4 - 6, 2013 at the LAX Marriott. ALA has certainly has made a home for themselves at the hotel. The LAX Marriott is no stranger to geeky and otaku weekends as events like LosCon and Gallifrey One are hosted here annually. Anime Los Angeles brought in a hoi polloi of American voice actors in their guest line up - most notably Richard Epcar and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn of Ghost in a Shell fame. The event also brought in local musicians to perform. However, the biggest draw of the con were the cosplayers and their respective photographers.

This year the theme is Life After Death by the Notorious B.I.G. to celebrate the return to California, at least for this con. ALA was an interesting case study in the pulse of the anime convention scene as it currently stands. We are in an era of growing pains - what can cons offer cosplayers other than hangout space and are the Millenial fans ready to party like it's DragonCon? In our last year attending Anime Los Angeles, we explore the answers to these questions. You can listen to our Anime Los Angeles edition of Zero Hour here.
