Anime Central's night time Saturday entertainment offered a potpurri of events going on. There were already lines formed up for the Soap Bubble and masquerade. Before the Baccano! gathering, I checked out the Spoony Bards concert in the main Hyatt lobby. I finally found the Baccano! gathering at the East Outdoor Wall. There was a good number of Baccano! cosplayers at the gathering. However, we were soon to be kicked out by the Umineko gathering who asked us to switch gathering spots. The Baccano! gathering migrated to the treet patch outside the Hyatt. However, we still managed to have a good time as Baccano! fans. First, we took shots of the female characters in Baccano! Then we took shots of the main male cast. When we got to the tree patch, we took shots of the cast members who were on the Flying Pussyfoot. And then we took pictures of the New York arc. I showed up as Miria in her New York dress. We took a few more group shots and duo shots of the group. As the Baccano! gathering was winding down, we spotted a high school prom pulling into the Hyatt. I wanted to check out the dealer's hall one more time before the night time events. The reason why I wanted to hit the dealer's hall was to meet one of my favorite Internet personalities, Doug Walker (That Guy With the Glasses). While he was not officially a guest of honor, he had his own table in the dealer's hall. Doug was selling autographs for $10. Plus, there was a 30 minute wait to get to him. The line was pretty long, but it was well worth it. Doug also expressed he would love to come out to California for an anime con. Take note, Fanime and Anime Los Angeles. I wish Anime Central drafted Doug Walker as one of the guests of honor. It would have made it easier to arrange for an interview or a press conference. I was under the impression that he was the "secret guest press conference" that the press department hyped up about. The line for masquerade was pretty long. I decided to watch the masquerade simulcast in the Hyatt lobby with the Spoony Bards. There was no real screen, so the show had to be projected onto the white wall. The masquerade had walk on cosplayers, intermission, and then the actual skits. Intermission featured a 20 minute video on the life and times of X Japan. It was essentially a promotional for their appearance at Lollapalooza. To our surprise, Yoshiki, drummer of X Japan made a special appearance on stage. However, Yoshiki's special appearance was a mixed bag. Many of the masquerade attendees were not J-rock fans and had expected to see a cosplay show. Others felt it would have been much more appropriate if Yoshiki made an appearance at the Aural Vampire concert or a special J-rock event. Consequently, because intermission ran longer than expected, masquerade awards had to be rushed and people were uncertain who won what. In between watching masquerade, I stopped by Vic Mignogna's "Can You Stump Vic in Star Trek Trivia." Vic was donned in an original Star Trek costume. Trivia was limited to the original series. If Vic knew the answer to your trivia question, he would shoot you with his phaser. This was a fun event for Star Trek and anime fans and a great alternative to watching masquerade.
For Saturday, I changed into my Anime Central mascot costume, Elle Aoi. This was a last minute closet cosplay, and I was glad that people recognized what I was, even though I did not have a Jaye Aoi on hand. Masquerade ended around 10PM. The participants showed up after the costume contest in the Hyatt lobby for photo ops. By this time, people were being let in for the soap bubble and people were looking for that special room party. For most of the night, I chit chatted with Anime Central locals and went to a small room party until about 1AM. And I believe Lady Gaga has tamed the tentacle monster. Rise little monster, rise.
