[Escapade] Adventure Land Day ’18: For Someone’s Glory

I heard about Adventure Land Day through Facebook events showing up on my feed. I had already missed out on Frontier Land Day. I thought it would be nice to finally do a land-themed day. Adventure Land Day was being planned for both Disney parks in North America. Both Anaheim and Orlando would have their respective Adventure Land Day events. This was the first Adventure Land Day of its kind full of surprises and non-stop adventure and discovery through one of the original lands in the happiest place on earth.

The Outfits and Bounds

I have bounded as Dr. Henry Indiana Jones before and this was the second time I wore Indy to the parks. The fedora, boots, and skirt are from Forever 21. The jacket is a vintage coat that my dad handed down to me. The blouse is from a Japanese online store called Bodyline. To make this outfit sound more nerd–er–scholarly than the bound already is, I used to dress like this when I taught summer classes at UC Berkeley.

Jared was originally going to bound as Sallah. He know the Indy ride safety spiel by heart. Also, who doesn’t love John Rhys Davies? He really didn’t feel like wearing a white dinner jacket to the parks. I suggested that he should bound as Rene Belloq from Raiders of the Lost Ark so we could go as rivals. The shirt was a Christmas gift, the tie and khakis were already in his closet, and the panama hat is from Dapper Day Expo.

Adventure lLand Day: Anaheim

We arrived at the main park at about 9:30AM. We still had time to pick up our maps for the event. Part of the day involved a scavenger hunt – the maps would be very useful for that. By the time we got into the park, we went to the queue for Jungle Cruise. We were just in time for all 100+ so adventurers to board the world famous Jungle Cruise. The next event was at 11AM over at the Enchanted Tiki Room. To kill time, I took photos of people’s outfits – more and more adventurers were straggling in. By the time we went in the attraction, the tiki room was filled with all of us adventurers. I’ve been inside the Enchanted Tiki Room many a time, this was a very lively crowd – everyone was singing along! Let’s all sing like the birdies sing!

At 12PM, we began the scavenger hunt. We pulled out our maps for all the hints to where each Adventure Land Day rep would be stationed to give us clue cards to where the group photo would be held. Jared, Cleo, and I went around the main park to collect clue cards and decipher where the group photo was. Because Cleo is quicker on her feet than I was, she was able to figure out that the group photo would be held over at the Hungry Bear Restaurant. About 300+ adventurers were present at the Hungry Bear Restaurant. Jared and I got our idol necklaces as a reward for collecting all of the clue cards.

Knowing that the Hungry Bear Restaurant might be crowded for lunch, we ended up grabbing food at Bengal BBQ back in Adventure Land. After lunch, we waited in line for Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye in the standby queue. We had about 30-40 so adventurers with us for this one.

The next group attraction was Pirates and we had about two boat fulls of adventurers with us. We just assumed that people were probably grabbing tables at Trader Sam’s immediately after Indy.

Trying to emulate Harrison Ford’s je ne sais quoi facial expression in all of the Indy posters, but I look too sleepy.

Overall

This was a fun group and excuse to dress up. I have to thank the organizers of Adventure Land Day – I appreciated all of the thought and effort that went into coordinating this event. It was very nice seeing familiar faces in the parks again; I wish I could come out and do more group events, but my weekends may keep me busy. I was very humbled by many compliments I got for my Indy bound. I was also very happy to see people bounding as characters from the Indiana Jones franchise too! I hope this happens again next year. This was a fun group of people. I do apologize in advance if I had to make conversations short; I’m still recovering from a cough and talking for long periods of time does a number to my voice. (but I love talking to all of you!) Until then, I hope to see you all at Dapper Day. Keep in touch and you can follow us on the following social media:
